Full note: The floral grassy notes of a freshly mown rugby pitch prepared for an epic encounter combine with the swirling fruity sweetness of pears and apples. From somewhere in the stadium’s stands comes a waft of sticky pineapple pudding with coconut custard. With the action underway, spice becomes more dominant, like chilli Indian naan bread or hot chocolate with cinnamon and nutmeg. A halftime splash of water accentuates the fruity aromas in the form of warm apple pie and hot vanilla sauce as well as the sharp note of a rhubarb crumble. The taste is like baked mango with cinnamon sugar tortillas, or licking honey off a wooden spoon – a full-time prize to savour, regardless of the game’s result.
