From the year Margaret Thatcher became Prime Minister – this summery, sun-caressed dram has been through it all – ending up with a nose of toffee, banana loaf, popcorn, rum-soaked vanilla cake and cinnamon swirls. The palate is dominated by bourbon wood and spice – oak, cinnamon, mace, clove, but it retains lovely brown sugar and candy corn sweetness, dried pineapple and coconut. The reduced nose gets apricot flan, banana Angel Delight, cinnamon toast and honeyed camomile tea. The palate is much sweeter with water – caramel chocolate biscuits and fruits in syrup – packed full of flavour, balancing beautiful chalky sweetness with dry, gentle spice tingles.
