Is there anyone out there in the Society whisky world who hasn’t had the pleasure of having a tasting with John? Where have you been!

Our master brand ambassador has been one of the main faces at the SMWS since he first became an ambassador in 2007, and he now conducts masterclasses and tastings for members and their guests at whisky festivals and events all over the world.

Prepare to be welcomed with open arms to any tasting conducted by SMWS ambassador John McCheyne.

As one of the most respected figures in the Scotch malt whisky world, John has shared his love and knowledge about whisky – along with his jokes and stories – with thousands of enthusiasts both in Scotland and overseas throughout the course of his whisky career.

As the Society's master brand ambassador, John has taken his passion for whisky all over the world.

Next week John will be in Campbeltown to host the Society’s first appearance at the ‘Wee Toon’s’ Malts Festival. If you’re heading there, be sure to pop into our partner bar at the Ardshiel Hotel from 1-4pm on Tuesday, 21 May to sample our celebratory bottles and drams, where John will be on hand to help you discover the perfect flavour profile.

If you can’t be there to meet John in person, don’t worry….we’re going to be beaming him live to you, wherever you might be. John will be joining forces with the Society’s Australian ambassador Matt Bailey on the evening of Wednesday, 22 May from 7-9pm to present a virtual tasting from the Ardshiel Hotel, and you can pick up your virtual tasting pack to join in on Facebook at

Never happier than in the SMWS warehouse, cask strength dram in hand...

”I’m so looking forward to Campbeltown and being able to share Society drams with Matt and members from all over the world,” says John. “Experiencing Society whisky is always better when shared, and this tasting will give members and friends the chance to chat about the whiskies and enjoy the experience together.

“Our first virtual tasting to Australia and Europe went really well last September and was great fun – so much so that Matt couldn’t resist coming over to help front this one! We look forward to ‘seeing’ you all. I’ll rack my brains and try to come up with a few new stories and look forward to sharing a dram or two with as many of you as possible in person during the rest of the year.”
