The Scotch Malt Whisky Society officially relaunched in France by hosting an exclusive party at newly appointed partner bar, Beaucoup, in Paris.
The event marked an important time for the SMWS as it makes its whisky and events available to more fans across Europe.
Local Society members, media, and influencers joined team SMWS to celebrate. Guests enjoyed a hand-picked selection of rare Society single cask whiskies across the 12 SMWS flavour profiles and food pairings.
The event also included the reveal of an exclusive cask, 29.195 Charred Staves and Black Dragon Tea, which is only available to members in France. The peated whisky is one of just 108 bottles in the world and evokes soft yellow fruits, scallop shells and singed rosemary sprigs. Read the full tasting notes here.
Four more partner bars have been established in Paris – Night Flight at Bachaumont Hotel; Gentlemen 1919; L’Esquisse and Les Rouquins. These new partner bars will offer a selection of Society whiskies and regular tasting events.
The SMWS France team is led by Chief Ambassadors Richard Liogier and Serge Lacombe, with support from three Ambassadors, Cyril Mald, Alexandre Vingtier and William Mercier who will host Society tastings at partner bars in Paris.
Mark van der Vijver, The Society’s International Commercial Manager, said: “We were delighted to celebrate our ‘renaissance’ in France with our party at Beaucoup in Paris. France is one of the biggest whisky markets in the world and this event is the first step in an exciting new chapter in our history here.”
In 2017, the Society will expand its activities beyond Paris to a number of other French cities. Are you a whisky fan living in the EU? Find out more about membership here.
