The nose was a conveyor belt of attractive, sweet, fruity aromas – candied pineapple dipped in dark chocolate, tinned mandarins and ice-cream, crushed blueberries and pain au chocolat. Adding water introduced raspberry pop tarts, Tooty Frooties and bubble gum – and we started to get understated suggestions of tobacco leaf and leather. The neat palate was an absolute Wow! – perfumed Edinburgh Rock and tropical fruit kebabs sprinkled with chilli powder and cinnamon – intense and mouth-tingling. Water reduced the intensity but not the joy – dried mango, ripe fig, rhubarb rock and jam on croissants – then a nicely drying finish of oak and chalky smoke.
