The nose was as inviting as a harbour to storm-weary sailors – some of us found comforting Horlicks and Rich Tea cereal notes, while others were in the shrubberies with mistletoe and shy flowers. The palate seemed older than its years and more complex than Donald Trump’s tax return – marzipan petits fours, chocolate orange, pear, good wood influence (nutmeg, liquorice) and subtle hints of mint and menthol. The reduced nose opened the door of a cake shop (pineapple humps, apricot Danish pastries), while the palate wove together mouth-tingling citrus and apple sours, drying woody spice and honey and chocolate sweetness.

DRINKING TIP: When seeking refuge or when rejection hurts the soul.
