A bruiser of a dram! The panel found a kind of peat concentrate on the nose with notes of oil, creel nets, crushed fennel, gravel, pot ale, ash, drying phenols, tar liqueur and gentian eau de vie. With water that beautiful syrupyness of the peat remains intact but further complexities such as motor oil, sea salt, Atlantic spray, lemons, herbs, wood smoke and lapsang souchong all emerge. The arrival on the palate is huge and tangy. Redolent with coal dust, peat oils, earth, spice, medicine and kippers. Water complicates things with mint, eucalyptus, liquorice, cocktail bitters, creosote, tar resin, TCP and root beer.
