Description

The nose was evocative – mainly dry grass and floral, like burnt Savanna or a heather moor still smoking at sunset; it also had raisins, dried coconut, rosemary and liquorice – ‘engine room of a puffer’, ‘Eccles cakes on a steam train shovel’, or ‘a Danish florist chewing liquorice’. The palate had a good weight and pleasant mouth-feel – slightly mouth-numbing liquorice root, snuff and hot cross buns; intense impressions of ash, coal dust, coffee grinds and sweet herbal smoke. We also got tinned macadamias and dried citrus peel (mainly orange and lime) – then the finish had a tingly salty tang.
