The mellow, complex, fascinating nose had exotic fruits, polished wood, Haribos, scented tea, millionaire shortbread, orange zest, liquorice and cloves. The palate was no disappointment – full of character befitting its years – a sonata of sapidity (jasmine, orange oil, midget gems) played on a rare wooden instrument; with teasing strains of dry, white pepper fading in the coda. The reduced nose had rhubarb rock and Werther’s Originals in a violin maker’s workshop. The palate now had the sinewy balance of an acrobat – toasted coconut and treacle toffee providing the satisfying sweetness and slightly medicinal spice in the finish adding depth and interest.

DRINKING TIP: For relaxed moods with old friends or favourite musical pieces – give it the time it deserves.
